Uplifting places for guests to enjoy

Hyatt Regency

The design upgrades speak to the maritime heritage of the Hyatt hotel’s site, leaving guests feeling calm and reinvigorated.

The redevelopment and expansion of the Hyatt Regency Sydney optimises the existing assets and enhances connectivity between the public spaces and back-of-house support, while paying homage to the maritime heritage of Darling Harbour.

The interior renovation of the arrival lobby, restaurant and bar, and meeting and convention spaces optimises views and creates a new link between the sandstone heritage buildings and the activity of the harbour.

The refurbishment of 649 guestrooms and 17 suites takes a ‘less is more’ approach, using simplistic, classic details to create clean, uncluttered space where hotel guests can feel calm and refreshed. Each spacious room features deluxe amenities and stunning views of the harbour or city.

Together, Zephyr Sky Bar and the Regency Club give the Hyatt Regency a unique pair of hospitality spaces that reinforce and celebrate the hotel’s unique harbourside location. To strike the right balance between the differing vibes, an ‘upper’ and a ‘lower’ deck concept was applied using the form, materiality, and lighting of a luxury ocean liner-inspired palette.

Located on level 12, Zephyr enjoys one of the best panoramas of a Sydney city sky bar, with 180-degree views to Barangaroo and across the west, offering customers a unique ‘upper deck’ experience. The visual narrative is distinctly nautical, with a palette of white, blue and black used exclusively, and a focus on clean lines and sensual curves. Working within the base building structure, the bar is placed at the front-centre edge of the floorplate, drawing customers towards the view and creating the planning symmetry associated with yacht design.

Designed in parallel with Zephyr, but with a more formal aesthetic, the Regency Club located below on level 11 functions more as an executive lounge. Exuding timeless luxury, the design draws on a glamour of travel perspective to create a series of crafted and highly detailed spaces. The 38m-long floorplate is visually defined into a series of five ‘cabins’, each reflecting a shift in hospitality focus, progressing in degrees of social interaction from communal to more intimate dining.
